Dear Lafayette College community:
We are writing to inform you that the Student Emergency Fund Program exists to provide financial support to students experiencing hardship due to catastrophic events or other extenuating circumstances such as illness, the death of an immediate family member, or a significant medical emergency. This fund exists thanks to the generosity of a grant from PNC Bank and in honor of the retirement of Dr. Jim and Donna Krivoski, long-time administrators at the College.
The program, which features limited funding, is designated for the sole purpose of assisting Lafayette students facing unexpected financial challenges. It is not associated with the financial aid application process. Financial aid applicants who have special circumstances that relate directly to billed costs should contact the Office of Financial Aid.
To be eligible for a grant from the program, an individual must be a full-time Lafayette College student. Students may apply for emergency grant assistance when other traditional methods of funding have been exhausted. This program is not meant to replace existing financial aid and does not need to be repaid. Students are eligible for grants up to $1,000 per academic year.
Funding is awarded on a case-by-case basis. Factors considered include the student’s financial need, the nature of the funding request, and the availability of funding at the time the request is made. This program is available to all students, however, priority is given to students with the highest financial need.
A few examples of expenses not covered by this program:
Books or other expected academic expenses, such as lab fees or codes for online textbooks
Costs for entertainment or non-emergency travel
Study abroad or related fees
Standardized testing and application fees
Residence Hall fees
All requests are confidential. No details are shared with a third party unless the student explicitly gives permission and only when there is a legitimate need. Details are only shared among administering college offices in order to process funding requests.
